Sister Beth Schmitz - 2A

I’m thrilled to be teaching at Christ King. Together, we’ll have a great year of learning, praying and playing.

Originally from Cuba City, WI, I’m the oldest of four children and a product of a Sinsinawa Dominican primary and secondary education. I received a B. S. in Elementary Education from the UW-Platteville and began my career as a first grade teacher at St. Charles School in Cassville, WI. After seven years there, I taught second grade at St. Mary’s in Burlington, WI while I prepared to be received into the School Sisters of St. Francis Community here in Milwaukee. After my Canonical Novitiate, I spent my Apostolic Novitiate teaching second grade at St. Mary’s in Menomonee Falls. When I completed my Novitiate, I decided to move back to the Madison Diocese – teaching first grade at St. James School in Madison for eight years. While I was there, I attended UW-Madison and received my MS in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on reading. Committees and SSSF Community activities beckoned me back to Milwaukee several years ago – teaching first grade at St. Anthony’s on 9th and Mitchell for two years and second grade at the Basilica of S. Josaphat for ten years.

As you can see, I have experience teaching in rural, suburban, and urban areas and loved all of it. I love to watch young children learn. Teaching children to read and love books is most rewarding for me. I always tell my students, “If you learn to read well, books will take you to far-away places – and you never have to leave home!” Second grade will be a landmark year for your children: they will come to know and love Jesus in such a special way as they prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my School Sister Community, family and friends, traveling, listening to music, reading a good book, or just browsing in a book store.
